Alamos on Fri, 5th Dec 2025 Almost Alamos Alamos is much quieter than its busier twin Morgado. It has the feel of a 'second course' too. Perhaps in the future when all the surrounding buildings get completed it will grow into what it is intended to be, a golf complex. For now it just feels a work in progress. Decent enough to play but perhaps a little overpriced when there are better options nearby. |

Alto Golf on Fri, 5th Dec 2025 Alto slipping down the list Alto is always a popular course being so near Alvor and Portimao. It can get very busy and the new apartments being built right in the middle of the back nine will probably make it even busier. I felt that the building site spoils the overall ambiance of the course andcwhen finished it will detract from the enjoyment of playing Alto. |

Alto Golf on Mon, 20th Oct 2025 Alto review A really great course - quite a challenge with long par 4âs and the rolling terrain. I would say the greens were fast pace but soft leading to a lot of unrepaired pitch holes. I sorted 3 or 4 before each putt. Not the fault of the course. One thing that we did find that the rate of play was quite slow being held up at most holes after the 7th, again not too much of a drama but there wasnât enough buggies for hire and a lot of groups had pull trolleys which maybe contributed to the slow play. The clubhouse is excellent and service was great. The rentals are the best - new qu10âsâŠ.going to struggle going back to my m6 now. I will play the course again next year though as one of the best in the area and a nice contrast to my home course which is a links. |

Penina Resort on Tue, 14th Oct 2025 Penina resort course should not be open The course was in very poor condition. While I accept that boar damage is a problem no effort has been made on the fairways to repair and place as GUR. Also the clubhouse gave no indication that the course was really unplayable |

Morgado on Tue, 30th Sep 2025 A worrying trend There seems to be a trend for courses to let anyone play, irrespective if they have played before, wear correct clothing, know the rules or basic etiquette. Bunkers are never raked and pitch marks are ignored. At Morgado there was a large group who slowed everyone down because they were all over the place. We came off after 12 holes when there were 4 groups waiting to play the next hole. They were also exceptionally noisy in the club house afterwards using very bad language. When we started playing you had to have a handicap to play and in some places we had to show it |

Alto Golf on Sun, 28th Sep 2025 Rude staff and not enough buggies Had a booking on Friday 26th Sep for 4 persons and 2 buggies on the summer special. Was greeted with a sign saying âNo Buggies availableâ I overheard several other groups being told the same and admittedly some were a lot older than us and had to go home as they couldnât manage walking 18 holes. Clearly the course keeps taking bookings for buggies even though they donât have enough. A rude older lady on reception told us it wasnât their fault and we should get a refund from our agent. She then wanted to charge us an extra 28⏠for 4 trolleys even though weâd paid for buggies. Luckily a younger polite lady stepped in and gave the trollies for no extra cost. For 3 of our group whilst disappointing to not have a buggy in the heat, we could manage but we had one disabled person who struggled to pull a trolley and the staff didnât seem to care. Something needs addressing |

Penina Resort on Wed, 24th Sep 2025 Scruffy course but you get what you pay for. The resort course could do with some TLC. It's as if it has been forgotten by the green staff. Although the greens were ok little things like the tees, filling the ball cleaners are not being attended to. |

Alto Golf on Thu, 18th Sep 2025 Very good condition We have played Alto Golf a few times over the last 19 years, but not since Pestana took it over. Previously very hit and miss with condition of course and pace of play. Now, very good tees and greens. Lush fairways which look great, but can slow down run of the ball. All over in good condition and no problem with pace of play. We will be back! |

Alto Golf on Thu, 11th Sep 2025 Great golf, chaotic service Course is in great condition. Greens very consistent. Some tough par 4âs and 2 lovely short par 3âs. No half way drinks stop so stock up at the clubhouse after 9. Service is pretty slow at the bar and the golf starter and his âsystemâ are pretty chaotic, bearing no relation to your booked time ! But âŠ.an enjoyable round. Use the twilight option to get 36 euro green fee. But donât try checking in before 14.45 ! All very smoothly organised by Algarve Golf. Obrigado ! |

Alamos on Mon, 4th Aug 2025 Brilliant but tricky for high handicappers Lovely practice facilities, nice touches with iceboxes on the carts and friendly staff. Course had some tight fairways and is a struggle for 25 handicaps but anyone under that should be fine to shoot 80s or 90s. |

Penina Championship on Thu, 17th Jul 2025 Penina, just missed the cut ! Stunning course layout but very poorly presented. Lots of areas around the greens and even fairways with no grass at all. And several greens with disease that should not be in play. That said with some effort it could be spectacular |

Penina Championship on Fri, 4th Jul 2025 In need of a loving green keeper. The course layout is good, being a Henry Cotton design, you'd expect that, but wow, there's a lot of work to do to return this course to its former glory. Greens weren't bad and some pretty good but fairways and the semi-rough were generally poor. The back 9 was in better condition than the front. I hope that one day the condition matches the layout and it'll be worth a return visit, until then I'll spend the same amount of money to play much better looked after courses in the area. |

Alamos on Thu, 22nd May 2025 Ălamos Golf Course Review â May 2025 Our group of six from the UK played Ălamos Golf Course in mid-May, and it offered a very different, but equally enjoyable, experience compared to its sister course, Morgado. Facilities: As with Morgado, the shared facilities are excellent. A full grass driving range, well-maintained short game areas, and a healthy, modern clubhouse that serves great food all contribute to a top-class setup. Whether warming up or winding down, itâs a great base for your round. Course Conditions and Layout: The course was in superb condition during our visit. Compared to Morgado, Ălamos is definitely more forgiving off the tee and better suited to higher-handicap golfers. Most par 4s hover around the 300-yard mark, and the par 3s sit around 150 yards from the yellow tees, which makes it more accessible for a range of playing abilities. Challenge and Playability: Donât let the shorter yardages fool you thoughâĂlamos demands precision. The greens are small and surrounded by run-offs in all directions, meaning that anything less than a sharp short game will be quickly exposed. The greens themselves are tricky, with subtle breaks and undulating surfaces that make putting a true test. Overall Impression: Ălamos is a beautifully presented course that complements the longer, more demanding Morgado layout. Itâs perfect for golfers looking for a slightly more relaxed roundâuntil you get to the greens! With excellent facilities, great course maintenance, and a layout that rewards accuracy and touch, itâs a must-play if youâre golfing in the Algarve. |

Morgado on Thu, 22nd May 2025 Morgado Golf Course Review â May 2025 Morgado Golf Course Review â May 2025 A group of six of us from the UK had the pleasure of playing Morgado Golf Course in mid-May, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Facilities: Right from arrival, the setup is impressive. Morgado shares its facilities with the nearby Ălamos Golf Course, and together they offer a first-class experience. The grass practice range is a real bonusânot something you find everywhereâand the clubhouse is modern, welcoming, and serves excellent food. Whether you're grabbing a bite before your round or relaxing afterward, it's a great place to unwind. Course Conditions: The course itself was in fantastic condition during our visit. We were pleasantly surprised to learn it has previously hosted the Portuguese Openâsomething that quickly made sense once we got out on the course. Layout and Playability: Morgado is a long test, especially from the yellow tees. The par 4s typically stretch beyond 400 yards, and the par 3s hover around the 200-yard mark, so bring your long game. That said, it's a fair course. The fairways are generous with wide landing areas, which gives you some confidence off the tee, and the greens are large and receptive, providing a fair challenge on approach shots and putting. Overall Impression: Morgado is a course that strikes a great balance: it's challenging without being punishing, beautifully maintained, and backed by excellent facilities. Itâs definitely a course weâd recommend to any golfers visiting the Algarve, and one weâd all happily return to. |

Alto Golf on Thu, 22nd May 2025 Alto Golf Course Review â May 2025 Alto Golf Course Review â May 2025 During our mid-May golf trip to the Algarve, a group of six of us from the UK had the pleasure of playing Alto Golf Course. While the course itself offers a distinct and challenging layout, it was the people that made our day truly memorable. Service and Hospitality: From the moment we arrived, the staff at Alto were outstanding. From the friendly and helpful woman in the pro shop to the caddy master, starter, and bar staffâeveryone we encountered was welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. The hospitality here is truly top-notch. Clubhouse & Facilities: The clubhouse is inviting and relaxed, with an outdoor seating area that overlooks the approach and green of the 18th hole. Itâs a lovely place to wind down after your round, enjoy a drink, and take in the final action on the course. Course Layout and Challenge: Alto is a tight, tree-lined course that demands accuracy and smart course management. Itâs not overly long, but definitely rewards a strategic approach. The fairways are narrow and framed by mature trees, requiring precise tee shots. The greens are small, and positioning into them is criticalâapproaching from the wrong angle often leaves a very difficult up-and-down. Playability: This is very much a plotterâs course. Itâs ideal for golfers who enjoy shaping shots, managing risk, and thinking their way around the layout. If you like target golf and a good mental test, Alto delivers. Minor Downside: The only negative during our round was some tree maintenance being carried out between two fairways. Unfortunately, it looked quite hazardous for the workers, as they were positioned well within tee shot range from two holes. Hopefully this is addressed for safety going forward, as it was a concern during play. Overall Impression: Despite the brief disruption, Alto Golf Course was a fantastic experience. It offers great value for money, a warm and friendly atmosphere, and a course layout that rewards smart play. Weâll definitely be returning on our next trip to the Algarve. |

Penina Resort on Thu, 15th May 2025 Easy to loose balls but great for learning golf . Good course to get back into playing golf. Nice long holes but very very easy to loose your ball, even on the fairways as many leaves . Also about 4/5 holes the greens were closed and makeshift holes have been made in front of the holes. |

Alamos on Sun, 27th Apr 2025 A real challenge in good condition Very challenging course, lots of variation in holes, in excellent condition, greens very tight with lots of undulation and fast and therefore very difficult. As the only relative minus point I have to mention that on some holes you can't get on the course with the buggy for long stretches and then you have to walk up and down from the path which influences focus. |

Morgado on Mon, 21st Apr 2025 Course are both nice with different challenges. Greens were slow but true and fair. Played both courses over 2 days and recurrent theme is pace of play. Both days were the same: 5 hours in both cases. There seem to be a lack of organization to match singles and pairs with other groups. Group of 5 played ahead of us and were allowed a full nine like this. Otherwise, very enjoyable if you are not afraid of the wind. |

Morgado on Wed, 9th Apr 2025 Super 18 holes Course in superb condition, lovely set up but several very difficult holes especially No.10 par 5 uphill! The infrastructure around the course looks poor, still trying to recover from 2008 financial crash with substantial incomplete complexes which need removed and unattractive roads/entrance to the course. Overall would not hesitate to return as golf is excellent |

Alamos on Tue, 1st Apr 2025 Terrible buggy paths and almost unplayable greens The course designer decided to make the greens like crazy golf, it feels like playing Augusta, our group thought it was an unfair challenge, when you leave an uphill putt 6 inches short the ball shouldnât roll back towards you, the greens are simply too tough, also the buggy paths are a disgrace constant pot holes, I left with a sore back due to the paths, the greens need to be slower with those slopes and the paths need fixing |
